0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robert Paulson! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oaken scores with a nice head shot. Paulson swinging wilding here.
A left and a right from Paulson both land. Nice combination. Oaken shoots in for a double leg but Paulson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A head kick misses from Oaken. Paulson stuffs the takedown. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Oaken!
Oaken scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Paulson is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Paulson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Paulson is still on wobbly legs! Can Oaken finish him? Paulson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Oaken counters with a single leg into guard. Paulson didn't expect that. Paulson uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Paulson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Paulson seems to have recovered his senses. Oaken closes the distance and clinches up with Paulson, looking for a takedown. Oaken pushes Paulson against the cage but Paulson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Danny Oaken. That's going to take a lot out of him. A punch combination from Oaken misses. Oaken throws a half hearted mid kick. Paulson stalks Oaken and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Oaken's face. Oaken staggers backwards, shaken. Oaken is breathing heavily. Paulson falls off balance throwing a combination
and Oaken counters by moving into the clinch. Oaken breaks the clinch.
Paulson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Paulson misses with a double jab.
Oaken closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oaken working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Oaken prevents Paulson from escaping the position. A lull in the action here as Oaken stalls from top position. Paulson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Oaken has just dragged him back down to the mat. Paulson throws Oaken to one side and escapes! Oaken shoots in and drives through. Paulson sprawls well. Paulson drops Oaken with a right and a left! Paulson comes rushing in but Oaken regains his composure and manages to keep Paulson in guard.
Oaken is rocked! Paulson lands a couple of decent looking shots. Oh Oaken is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Oaken has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Paulson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Paulson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Oaken is trying to control the position but Paulson postures up. Oaken seems to have got his legs back now. Oaken has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Paulson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Paulson throws a series of punches but Oaken moves out of range. Oaken shoots for a takedown but Paulson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Oaken throws a leg kick but Paulson checks it. Paulson keeps the fight on the outside. Oooh a lovely combination from Oaken sends Paulson down but not out. Oaken dives into side control looking to finish.
It looks like Robert Paulson has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Paulson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Oaken asserts his dominance and retains side control. Paulson trying to remain calm as Oaken controls from the top position. Oaken thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Paulson tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. You get the feeling that Paulson really doesn't like being in this position too much.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oaken is standing up, even though he is in mount. Oaken tries to clinch but Paulson moves out of range. Paulson tries to keep at a distance but Oaken has taken the fight into the clinch. Oaken is looking to control Paulson's arms but Paulson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Oaken has his back to the cage. Paulson manages to break the clinch.

and Oaken counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Paulson turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Paulson moves into full mount! Oaken tries to hold on but Paulson pushes him away. Paulson tries to control but Oaken wriggling away. Oaken tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Paulson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Oaken kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Oaken bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Paulson keeping moving, preventing Oaken from controlling successfully. Paulson wants to get back to his feet but Oaken is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Oaken seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Paulson uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Paulson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Danny Oaken will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Robert Paulson's cut. That's time! Oaken's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Not much technique there but it did the business. Oaken throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Paulson's waist but Paulson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oaken off to one side. Oaken looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Paulson is fending him off so far but Oaken persists. Nope, Paulson circles away and we're back to standing. Paulson avoids the head kick by Oaken.
Paulson throws a right and a left that Oaken avoids nicely. Oaken rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Paulson moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Paulson parries the strikes from Oaken easily there. Oaken is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Paulson to escape.

Horrible takedown by Oaken or perhaps it was just good defense by Paulson which made him look bad. Oaken shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Oaken shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Paulson as he jumps to the side. Robert Paulson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oaken rushes Paulson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Oaken tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Oaken escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Paulson throws a series of punches but Oaken avoids them all with ease. Oaken looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Paulson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Oaken.
Oaken feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Danny Oaken overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Paulson pushes Oaken off and scrambles back to his feet.
