Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hutch Gibson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nicolas Refn! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Refn misses with a hook
and Gibson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Gibson wants to control but Refn is keeping him busy. Gibson slows the pace down in half guard. Gibson is trying to work for a kimura but Refn is defending well.
Refn is trying to stand.
Refn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Gibson seems to be working for a kimura but Refn defends the submission attempt. Gibson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Refn's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gibson connects with a nice short shot to Refn's temple. Gibson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Refn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Refn is trying to stand up here but Gibson is controlling him well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Refn can do anything to dispel that myth. Gibson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Gibson winds up and cracks Refn with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Gibson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Gibson slips a nice elbow through Refn's hands, connecting with Refn's forehead. Gibson moves into full mount! Refn won't be happy about that! Refn wants to hold on but Gibson pushes him away. Refn is squirming around, avoiding Gibson's attempts to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gibson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gibson lands with some strikes. Gibson scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Refn?

Refn is rocked! Gibson tries to control but Refn wriggling away. Refn is still in real trouble! Can Gibson finish him? Refn seems to have recovered his senses. Gibson content just to control the position here. Gibson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gibson lands a big shot there that rocks Refn but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gibson loads up with a big shot that hurts Refn! He's pulled Gibson in close but Gibson has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Refn survive? More strikes from Gibson and Refn is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
