The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gaea as he avoids it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rodriguez.
Gaea swats away the attempt to clinch by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gaea.
Rodriguez tries to buck Gaea off but Gaea is having none of it.
Gaea wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rodriguez keeps working.
Gaea advances to full mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gaea is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Rodriguez has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Gaea wants to finish this one by submission but Rodriguez is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gaea.
Gaea moves to back control.
Gaea is breathing heavily.
Rodriguez has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Gaea.
Rodriguez can't escape the position.
Rodriguez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Gaea has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rodriguez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Gaea's guard. Nice work there by Rodriguez.

Gaea escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rodriguez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gaea is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Rodriguez rolls with it to try and escape but Gaea cranks on the arm and Rodriguez is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
