Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Everton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Flurry! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Everton has a takedown stuffed. Everton shoots in looking for a takedown. Flurry tries to sprawl out of it but Everton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Flurry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Everton shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Everton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Flurry drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Everton is trying to buck Flurry off. Everton tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Flurry easily slips into full mount! Flurry wants to control the pace but Everton is squirming around nicely. Everton is looking to improve his position but Flurry isn't that keen on the idea. Flurry trying to control but Everton is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Everton really wants to buck Flurry off and get back to his feet. Flurry pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Everton keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flurry trying to control but he's not successful this time. Everton flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Everton wants to control but Flurry is having none of it. Everton bucks Flurry off and manages to get back to his feet! Everton is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Everton misses with a head kick.
Everton misses with a takedown and Flurry counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Flurry controlling the pace. Everton wants to get back to his feet. Everton trying to control here.
Everton manages to get to full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Everton holds on and takes a little breather. Everton is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Everton looking for a sweep. Not yet Everton, not yet. Everton wants to stand but Flurry is controlling the position. Everton is controlling Flurry's posture. Flurry wants to control from the top but Everton keeps moving.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Everton misses with a takedown attempt and Flurry counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Flurry wants to pass to mount but Everton is defending the position. Everton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Everton trying to control here.
Flurry is keen to just control but Everton is a slippery customer. Everton wants to get back to full guard. Everton connecting with a few gentle strikes. Flurry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Everton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Flurry seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Flurry working the head and body with strikes.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Flurry shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Everton's guard. Flurry trying to control but Everton is working from the bottom. Flurry must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Everton throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nick Flurry dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Flurry avoids a kick to the body.
Flurry feints and as Everton raises his hands in defense, Flurry changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Everton keeping moving, preventing Flurry from controlling successfully. Everton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Flurry's guard. Everton trying to control the position from guard on top but Flurry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Everton slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Flurry is not content to let Everton control the position. Flurry struggling a bit here. Everton misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Everton decides to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Everton doesn't succeed with the takedown and Flurry counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Everton's guard now. Flurry preventing the sweep. Everton is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Flurry drops back looking for a leg! Everton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Everton manages to kick Flurry off! Flurry jumps back into Everton's guard. Everton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Flurry stops Everton from standing up. Nick Flurry has got the better of the ground game so far. Flurry passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flurry stands up and we're back to a striking position. Flurry cracks the inside of Everton's front leg. Everton stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Flurry. Flurry misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Everton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Everton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Flurry is in a horrible position here. Everton smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Everton unloading with bombs! Everton in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Flurry is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Everton lands a nice shot to the head. Everton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Flurry looks a forlorn figure.
Everton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flurry is trying desperately to improve position. Everton looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Flurry wants to hold on but Everton pushes him away. Everton is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Flurry is forced to tap! Great finish!
