PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Aston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Next Episode-Dr Dre. Aston has chosen Always on time as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sean Aston!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aston shoots in and bounces Martin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Aston trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Martin is on top in guard.
Martin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aston swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aston keeping moving, preventing Martin from controlling successfully.

Aston is working an open guard so Martin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Martin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Martin trying to control from Aston's half guard. Aston has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Martin postures up in Aston's guard and throws a big left but Aston blocks it.
Aston wants to sweep here but Martin controlling him for the moment.
Martin trying to control but Aston is working from the bottom.
Aston wants to get back to his feet but Martin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Martin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Martin is pushing down on Aston's leg trying to pass to half guard. Aston is fighting to maintain full guard but Martin has managed to sneak the leg through.
Martin wants to stand up but Aston is controlling the position.
Aston tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control.
Martin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Martin uses his free foot to push down on Aston's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Aston.
Martin lands with some strikes.
Aston wants to control but Martin is having none of it.
Martin wants to control but instead Aston manages to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Aston preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Martin gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Martin misses with the body kick

and Aston decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Martin's guard.
Martin wants to sweep but no luck.
Aston tries to free his leg and advance position but Martin is retaining full guard.
Martin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Martin will probably get the nod.

Aston tries to clinch but Martin moves away
and Martin makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Aston really felt that one!

Martin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Aston quickly recovers to half guard.
Aston moves into full guard.
Martin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Aston is keeping the position for now.
Martin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Martin tries to stand but Aston is controlling from the bottom.

Aston manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Martin throwing hammer fists to the chest of Aston. What's that going to do exactly?
Aston looking to control but Martin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Martin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Martin really wants to buck Aston off and get back to his feet.
Aston throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Aston avoids the attempt from Martin to control.
Martin tries to reverse the position but Aston maintains control.
Aston should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Aston throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Martin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Aston content just to control the position here.
Martin is working to get back to half guard.

Aston controlling the pace for now.
Aston looking to finish with strikes here!

Aston wants to control the pace but Martin is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aston throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Martin blocking the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martin tries to lock up and control but Aston gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Aston controlling from the full mount.
Martin is squirming around, avoiding Aston's attempts to control the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sean Aston will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Aston tries to clinch but Martin moves away

and Martin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Aston tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Martin smiles and moves away.

Martin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Martin lands in his opponent's guard.
Aston is pulling down on Martin's head to control his posture.
Let's hope that Aston has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Martin looking to sit in guard and control but Aston gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Aston is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Aston postures up.
Aston slips nicely into half guard.
Martin tries to get to full guard but Aston has control of the leg.
Aston looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Martin is trying to stand back up but Aston is controlling him

Still in half guard, Aston seems content to control.
Martin trying to hold on to Aston's head to control him but Aston postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Martin tries to get to full guard but Aston has control of the leg.
Martin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Martin enables Aston to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Martin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aston trying to control the position from guard on top but Martin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aston wants to pass the guard but Martin is keeping the position.
Martin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Aston controls the pace.
Aston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sean Aston has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Aston engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sean Aston wasn't active enough on the ground.
Martin lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Aston looking for a takedown.

Martin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Martin forces Aston back against the cage and clinches.
Aston tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Aston drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jim Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Aston.

Martin gets control of Aston's arms and successfully pulls guard. Martin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Aston is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Martin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Aston defends well.
Aston trying to control the position from guard on top but Martin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jim Martin.
I think Martin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
