Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Scottie Redd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Ferguson! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Redd shoots and misses and Ferguson counters with a straight right hand. Ferguson's corner calls for a 1-2. Ferguson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Ferguson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Redd shoots and misses and Ferguson counters with a one-two to the body. Redd misses with a takedown attempt and Ferguson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scottie Redd. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ferguson moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Ferguson misses with a series of wild punches.
Redd bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Redd staying calm. Redd is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ferguson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Ferguson tries to escape but Redd is in control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Redd advances to mount. Redd won't let Ferguson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Redd is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ferguson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ferguson holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Redd tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Redd moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ferguson has worked his arm free - good work by Ferguson!
Redd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Redd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Redd has hold of Ferguson's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Ferguson tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Redd cranks the arm and Ferguson screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Ferguson, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Scottie Redd!
