The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jahkvilk moves into the clinch successfully.
Jahkvilk has had enough of the clinch but Valesquez keeps him there for the moment. Valesquez has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Jahkvilk is trying to keep an underhook but Valesquez manages to get the takedown into half guard. Valesquez is working for a kimura but Jahkvilk is defending it quite comfortably.
Valesquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jahkvilk keeps working. Valesquez prevents Jahkvilk from improving his position. Valesquez is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Jahkvilk reverses the position - he's now on top in Valesquez's guard. Jahkvilk avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jahkvilk gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Jahkvilk misses with a lunging right hand
and Valesquez counters with a stiff right hand. Jahkvilk tries to work over Valesquez's front leg with a kick but Valesquez checks it. Valesquez slips a jab and a cross from Jahkvilk.
Jahkvilk closes the distance and clinches. Jahkvilk is pressed up against the cage. Valesquez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jahkvilk down to the mat. Jahkvilk avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Jahkvilk looking to score a takedown here. Valesquez is defending well but Jahkvilk drives through and ends up in Valesquez's guard. Jahkvilk looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Jahkvilk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valesquez on the ground. Valesquez has a closed guard, preventing Jahkvilk from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valesquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jahkvilk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Jahkvilk has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Valesquez wants to sweep here but Jahkvilk controlling him for the moment. Valesquez has his hands on Jahkvilk's head, controlling the position. Valesquez working a defensive guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jahkvilk is posturing up here but Valesquez has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Jahkvilk tries to roll out but it's too tight and Jahkvilk has to tap! Slick submission there by Valesquez!
