Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lyndon Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Cohen Maloney! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Maloney moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Maloney will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jones misses with a wild body shot. Maloney has a takedown stuffed. Jones looks to land a combination but Maloney avoids it well. A swing and a miss from Jones. Jones goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Cohen Maloney has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Maloney closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Maloney pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Lyndon Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cohen Maloney. A combination from Jones does no damage. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maloney is defended easily by Jones. Maloney bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Maloney avoids the body shot from Jones.
Jones lands the left hand. Jones scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Maloney drives through with a takedown into Jones's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Maloney throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones wants to stand and escape but Maloney is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maloney is in close to Jones's body, working some short punches and elbows. Maloney thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Jones keeping moving, preventing Maloney from controlling successfully. Jones working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Maloney. Maloney has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Maloney looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maloney is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Maloney pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jones is keeping the position for now. Maloney missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maloney on the ground. Maloney loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Maloney drops back looking for a leg! Jones is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jones manages to kick Maloney off! Maloney jumps back into Jones's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maloney thows a big elbow that misses. Maloney throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Maloney thows a big elbow that misses. That's four minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maloney accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Maloney tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard. Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position. Maloney with a flurry of punches that miss. Maloney passes into half guard. Maloney lands strikes from half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Maloney is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jones doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maloney. Jones wants to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Cohen Maloney will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Cohen Maloney's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Jones smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A big right from Jones misses. Maloney takes a jab right on the kisser.
Lyndon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jones misses with a two punch combination.
Maloney fails with a takedown attempt. Maloney shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Jones misses with a straight left. A jab from Jones misses. Jones looks to land a combination but Maloney avoids it well. Jones takes a swing at Maloney's ribcage but misses. Jones wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jones throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Maloney on the side of the head. Jones is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Good exchange - Jones coming out on top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maloney dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Maloney's head and hops out. Lyndon Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cohen Maloney. Jones connects with a right hand. Maloney shakes it off.
That has opened up Cohen Maloney's cut even more. A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Maloney does a little dance to reset his feet. Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
Jones lands with a nice body punch. Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Maloney. Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Maloney circles away quickly and effectively. Jones cracks a nice hook into Maloney's ribs. Lyndon Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Maloney is breathing heavily. Maloney misses with a low kick.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jones lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Maloney backs up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Maloney is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Jones. Nice shot by Jones.
The cut above Cohen Maloney's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Jones with a body punch. A glancing blow. Maloney doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones throws a series of punches but Maloney moves out of range. Maloney moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Good shot there by Jones. Jones tests Maloney's chin there with a solid looking shot. Jones bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Maloney's head.
Cohen Maloney's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
Jones lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Jones scores with a shot to the body.
Maloney tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes. Jones with a jab. Jones misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jones scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Cohen Maloney's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Lyndon Jones!
