Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Madhouse. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Smith! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Child! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Child fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Smith throws a body punch but Child moves out of range. Smith gets a takedown into half guard. Child tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg. Child should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Smith is looking for a kimura but Child is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage. Child wants to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith is pressing down on Child's thigh, looking to free his foot. Child is holding on for now. Smith is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Child is trying to maintain the position but Smith is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Child looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Child seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Child trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Child gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting. Child fails with the takedown and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Child wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position. Child looks gassed! Smith forces his way into half guard. Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Child doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith. Child blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smith. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Smith is tying to control. Child wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Smith sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Child defending well though. Child is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back! Even with his hooks in, Child manages to miss with strikes from the back. Smith breaks Child's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Smith passes easily into side control. Nice work. Smith lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Child down.
Child is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Smith gets to mount! Child was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Child regains half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Child tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Child flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Smith thows a huge punch but Child dodges it nicely.
Child looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Child makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Child. Child is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Child has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Smith lands a couple of elbows.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Child working a defensive guard here.
Smith is pushing down on Child's leg trying to pass to half guard. Child is fighting to maintain full guard but Smith has managed to sneak the leg through. Child trying to control but Smith postures up.
Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Child does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Smith wants to advance to full mount but Child doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Child looking for a guillotine here but Smith defends easily.
Smith passes Child's left leg - he's now in half guard. Child moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Child working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Child is tightening it up a little... Smith has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Smith reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Smith taps out! nice BJJ there by Child!
