Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Story! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Houston! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Houston tries for a takedown but Story circles away easily and Story counters by clinching up. Story breaks the clinch.
Houston misses with a takedown and Story counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Story scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Story controlling from side mount. Story prevents Houston from escaping the position. Houston is looking to reverse the position. Houston is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Story asserts his dominance and retains side control. Story slows the pace down. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Houston is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Story trying to control the action but Houston is working from the bottom. Houston gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Story content to control rather than advance.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Rick Story wasn't doing enough on the ground. Houston misses with a takedown attempt and Story counters with a shoot takedown. Houston fights it but they end up in guard. Rick Story has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Houston. Houston looking for a guillotine here but Story defends easily.
Story has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Houston looks gassed! Houston looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Story controls from within his opponent's guard. Houston is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Story defends well. Houston is looking for a triangle but Story pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Story is working Houston over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Story is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The ref stands the fighters back up because Rick Story just wasn't active enough. Story decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Story takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Houston tries to get to full guard but Story has control of the leg. Houston looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Story knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Houston on the ground. Story gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
That's three minutes gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Houston enables Story to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Houston manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Houston is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Story is aware though and is defending well. Houston throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Story escapes and throws Houston's legs to the side, diving into side control! Houston is trying to improve his position. Houston is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Houston is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Story off and has taken his back! Story trying to control the hands but Houston won't let him. Story is having to fend off submission attempts from Houston, who is looking to sink in the choke. Houston doesn't have the hooks in though and Story manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Story seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Houston throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Story advances position into side control! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Story decides to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rick Story dominated that round. That's time! Story's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Story closes the distance but Houston moves to the side and Houston counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Story's guard now. Story wants to stand and escape but Houston is having none of it. Story keeping full guard, as Houston tries to pass. Houston is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Story is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Story has escaped and now he's on top! Story is stalling in the full guard. Houston is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Houston throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Story content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Houston has an active guard here but Story has managed to pass into half guard.
Story winds up and cracks Houston with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Houston is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Story pulls his head out easily. Houston actively working from the bottom here. Story wants to pass to mount but Houston is defending the position. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Story in particular looking to stall. Story decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Story gets a clinch. Story avoiding damage.
Story escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Houston tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Story swivels and escapes. Story closes the distance and clinches. Houston changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Story fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Rick Story has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Houston. Story breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Story moves into the clinch successfully.

Houston got a little sloppy there for a moment and Story has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Houston has managed to get both his arms back between Story's legs - danger averted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Houston drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Story dives on top into guard. Houston working for a triangle but Story defends it easily.
Houston keeping moving, preventing Story from controlling successfully. Story is really struggling to control Houston but he's trying to hold on to the position. Houston is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Story has his hands clasped together but Houston extends an breaks Story's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Houston.
