PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and DJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Til I Collapse kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pablo Escobar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Escobar throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Penn counters with a nice body shot.
Escobar misses with a takedown
and Penn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Penn misses with a low kick.
Escobar walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Escobar takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Escobar takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

DJ Penn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

and Penn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Penn is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Escobar rather than just go for the knockout.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Escobar. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Penn paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Escobar takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Escobar takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Penn takes a swing at Escobar's ribcage but misses.
DJ Penn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Escobar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Penn.

and Penn counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Escobar thinking.
Penn lands the left hand.

Escobar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Escobar showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Escobar seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are battling for position here. Penn manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Escobar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Escobar drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Penn dives on top into guard.

Escobar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Escobar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Penn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Escobar is keeping the position for now.

DJ Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Escobar looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Penn lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Escobar takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Escobar avoids the body shot from Penn.
Escobar blocks a jab.
Penn throws a lazy right hand but Escobar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

DJ Penn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Penn winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
