The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice shot lands for Penn.
It looks like Kim Jonghyun has been cut. Penn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jonghyun is fending him off so far but Penn persists. Nope, Jonghyun circles away and we're back to standing. Jonghyun turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. A low kick from Penn is predictable there and Jonghyun counters with a body kick that stops Penn in his tracks momentarily. Penn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Penn trying to pass the guard but Jonghyun defending well. Penn not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Jonghyun keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Penn is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Penn prevents Jonghyun from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Jonghyun pushes Penn off looking to stand but Penn dives back in and keeps control.
Penn moves nicely into side control. Penn throwing shots but missing, from side control. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Jonghyun taking a bit of punishment here - Penn scoring with strikes. Penn moves into full mount! Penn punching from mount but Jonghyun doing a good job of avoiding damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Penn is landing with some decent strikes but Jonghyun is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Penn misses with a head shot. Penn punching from mount but Jonghyun doing a good job of avoiding damage. Penn breaks from Jonghyun's wrist control and lands an elbow. Penn jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jonghyun manages to avoid the submission attempt. Penn controlling the position from side mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Penn creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jonghyun sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Penn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Penn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The ground and pound from Penn seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Penn is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jonghyun knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Penn working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Jonghyun is trying to improve his position. Penn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Jonghyun wants to get back to his feet but Penn drags him back down. A lull in the action here. Penn fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Jonghyun is working to avoid the ground and pound but Penn connects with a decent elbow. Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Penn throwing shots but missing, from side control. Penn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Penn misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kim Jonghyun's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kim Jonghyun's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
