Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Strife! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Diaz! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz moves to clinch but Strife breaks away and Strife counters with a good low kick that Diaz was not able to check. Diaz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Diaz tries to clinch but fails miserably and Strife counters with a nice low kick that buckles Diaz's knee momentarily. Diaz throws a leg kick that is checked and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Diaz tries for a takedown but Strife circles away easily and Strife counters by clinching up. Diaz takes a knee right on the jaw!
Strife keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Diaz's efforts to push away. Diaz is working for takedown but Strife is calmly controlling the position for now. A short right hand to the side of the head by Strife. Strife stalling the fight.
Diaz has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Strife drops Diaz with a big knee straight up the middle! Diaz is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
Diaz is rocked!
It looks like Nate Diaz has been cut. Diaz throws a leg kick and Strife counters by moving into the clinch. Diaz is still on wobbly legs! Can Strife finish him? Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Strife smiles and moves away.
John Strife has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Diaz. Strife feints and then cracks Diaz's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Diaz down. Diaz looks gassed! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Diaz darts in trying to clinch and Strife counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Strife. Diaz seems to have recovered his senses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Strife stalls. Strife connects with a knee to the head.
The referee calls for Strife to work.
Strife lands a right hand that snaps the head of Diaz backwards. Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Strife smiles and moves away.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt and Strife counters with a flying knee that drops Diaz! Strife dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Strife!
