Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duncan McAlister! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremy Staton! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Staton throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck McAlister on the side of the head. McAlister misses with a right hand and Staton counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. McAlister connects with a leg kick. Staton looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. McAlister tries to clinch up but Staton circles away and keeps his distance. McAlister takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Staton moves into the clinch successfully.
Staton pushes McAlister back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Staton lands a left hand.
McAlister is breathing heavily. Staton lands a hook that snaps the head of McAlister backwards. McAlister working aggressively here.
Staton lands a body shot. Staton lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
McAlister keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Ground and pound from Staton. McAlister is refusing to be controlled, as Staton sits in half guard. Staton controlling the action here. McAlister regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Staton. Staton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Staton landing some decent shots from guard. McAlister keeping full guard, as Staton tries to pass. Staton trying to control but McAlister is working from the bottom. Staton's corner is telling him to maintain position. Staton throws a big right hand that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Staton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Staton in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Staton trying to control but McAlister is working from the bottom. Staton advances position into side control! Check out the look on Staton's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
McAlister parries the strikes from Staton easily there. Staton is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable McAlister to escape.
Staton cracks McAlister with a big elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This has been an exciting period of action! Staton scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McAlister to see if he's OK. McAlister takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Staton in side control, throwing shots but McAlister defends.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Staton working the body and head with strikes. Staton landing strikes. Check out the look on Staton's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Staton fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Staton in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
McAlister is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McAlister is working to avoid the ground and pound but Staton connects with a decent elbow. Oh McAlister is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Staton is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McAlister knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Staton lands a strong strike to the head of McAlister. That's dazed him! Staton looking to finish here. McAlister is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Staton lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
