Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mr Phil Davis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrei Katchenko!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis misses with a body shot
and Katchenko counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Katchenko lands a jab to Davis's midsection.
Katchenko lands a head kick. Davis smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Katchenko is looking to chop away at Davis's legs.
Katchenko finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Katchenko walks into a left hand.

Katchenko throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Davis throws a sloppy body shot
and Katchenko counters with a body kick that stops Davis in his tracks momentarily.
Good leg kick by Katchenko there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A head kick misses from Katchenko.
Davis misses with a lunging right hand
and Katchenko counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Davis is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Katchenko lands a nice shot that snaps Davis's head back.
Davis on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Katchenko. Katchenko obviously looking to wear him down.
Davis misses with a body shot
and Katchenko counters with an inside leg kick.
Davis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Katchenko manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Davis misses the body punch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Davis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Katchenko was well out of range. Poor timing from Davis.
Davis tries for a takedown but Katchenko sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Davis wants to clinch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Davis. Katchenko does a little dance to reset his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Davis misses with a shot to the body
and Katchenko cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Davis digs a good body shot into Katchenko's ribs.
Mr Phil Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Katchenko momentarily.
Katchenko fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Davis has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Davis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Davis misses with a right hand
and Katchenko counters with a big head kick but Davis shrugs it off.
Davis moves out of range of the body kick from Katchenko.
Davis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Katchenko moves away.
Katchenko throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davis looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Katchenko throws a poor cross that misses
and Davis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Davis avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Davis throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Katchenko on the side of the head.

and Davis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Katchenko's guard now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Katchenko is trying to control the position but Davis postures up.
Davis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Davis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Katchenko controls Davis momentarily but Davis frees himself.
Davis is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Andrei Katchenko.

Davis is looking to wear down Katchenko with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Andrei Katchenko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Davis looks to land a right hand but Katchenko moved out of range.
Davis takes a swing at Katchenko's ribcage but misses.
Katchenko turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Davis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Katchenko moves away.

Davis tries to close the distance and clinch but Katchenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
