The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pettis lands with a slapping head kick. The Deathwalker with a lazy takedown attempt and Pettis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pettis. Pettis keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of The Deathwalker's head. The Deathwalker is looking to stand up but Pettis isn't so interested in that idea. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pettis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The Deathwalker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pettis is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The Deathwalker is looking to stand up but Pettis isn't so interested in that idea. The Deathwalker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The Deathwalker keeping moving, preventing Pettis from controlling successfully. The Deathwalker is working an open guard so Pettis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Pettis gets a clinch. The Deathwalker tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pettis gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, The Deathwalker regains guard.
Pettis stands up from guard. Let's bang! The Deathwalker throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

The Deathwalker works his way back into a safe position though. Pettis tries to land a sweep but no joy. The Deathwalker tries to free his leg and advance position but Pettis is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. The Deathwalker drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pettis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now The Deathwalker has Pettis in his guard. Pettis thows a big elbow that misses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pettis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Pettis is fighting to break The Deathwalker's control of his arms but The Deathwalker is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Pettis with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. The Deathwalker keeping moving, preventing Pettis from controlling successfully. The Deathwalker is looking for a triangle here but Pettis uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Pettis decides to stand up, so the ref orders The Deathwalker to his feet. Pettis avoids the head kick by The Deathwalker.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The Deathwalker misses with a takedown and Pettis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pettis. Pettis scores with a decent looking elbow strike. The Deathwalker uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Pettis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! The Deathwalker is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! The Deathwalker has escaped and now he's on top! The Deathwalker wants to control from the top but Pettis keeps moving. The Deathwalker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pettis swivels though and keeps the full guard. The Deathwalker throws a big right hand that misses. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The Deathwalker with a flurry of punches that miss.

The Deathwalker is defending well but Pettis drives through and ends up in The Deathwalker's guard. Pettis gets to his feet - The Deathwalker follows without any prompting. Pettis takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. The Deathwalker throws a lazy head kick and Pettis counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The Deathwalker kicks Pettis off and gets to his feet. Anthony Pettis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The fight moves into the clinch position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The Deathwalker manages to break the clinch.

Pettis tries to close the distance and clinch but The Deathwalker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. The Deathwalker gets a takedown into half guard. The Deathwalker not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The Deathwalker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The Deathwalker moves nicely into side control. The Deathwalker trying to control the position but Pettis is working away. Sloppy strikes there by The Deathwalker.

The Deathwalker is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The Deathwalker is pushing down on Pettis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pettis is fighting to maintain full guard but The Deathwalker has managed to sneak the leg through. Well, if The Deathwalker is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. The Deathwalker looks for a takedown but Pettis sprawls well. Pettis throws a right and a left that The Deathwalker avoids nicely. The Deathwalker throws a head kick that misses. Pettis tries to clinch but The Deathwalker is having none of it. The Deathwalker throws a sloppy head kick and Pettis counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for The Deathwalker! The Deathwalker is looking to improve his position but Pettis isn't that keen on the idea. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Pettis is in the full mount, landing strikes. The Deathwalker tries to lock up and control but Pettis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
