Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenny Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Red Hook!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hook with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Hook misses with a head kick.
Hook throws a poor cross that misses
and Powers counters with a stiff right hand.
Powers stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Powers avoids the head kick by Hook.
Hook throws a body kick that misses.
A low kick from Hook misses
so Powers counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Powers looking to sit in guard and control but Hook gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Powers pulls Hook in to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Kenny Powers has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hook tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Powers gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Powers fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Hook takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hook chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Hook throws a lazy head kick
enabling Powers to counter with a crisp jab.
Hook throws a right hand that misses
and Powers counters with a huge left! Hook is in big trouble! He's backing up but Powers isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Hook from any more damage. A dominating finish by Powers!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kenny Powers!
