PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Guster Spencer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junichi Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Watanabe comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "One Thing Leads to Another" by The Fixx kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Guster Spencer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Junichi Watanabe!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spencer darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Watanabe takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Spencer connects with a right hand. Watanabe shakes it off.
Watanabe lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Guster Spencer has been cut.

Spencer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Watanabe tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Spencer is in Watanabe's guard.

Spencer's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Spencer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Watanabe misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Spencer is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Watanabe's half guard.

Watanabe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spencer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Spencer connects with a good right hand that stumbles Watanabe. Watanabe circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

and Spencer counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Watanabe!
Spencer tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Watanabe takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Watanabe is rocked!

Spencer working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Watanabe looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Spencer! Submission of the night perhaps?
