Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fitzroy Mayers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chuck Perry! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perry misses with a left hand and Mayers counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mayers. Mayers wants to control from the top but Perry keeps moving. Perry is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Mayers cracks Perry with a solid left hand. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mayers is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Perry looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mayers throwing strikes from guard but Perry blocks nicely. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mayers accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Perry working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mayers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mayers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mayers looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perry is on top in guard.
Mayers looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Perry puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Mayers on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mayers tries to get out of the position. Mayers wants to get back to full guard. Perry content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Perry is looking for a kimura here.
Mayers is defending against the submission attempts here by Perry.
Mayers wants to control but Perry is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Perry passes the guard and advances to mount! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Mayers is in all sorts of trouble here.
Mayers tries to buck Perry off but Perry takes his back! Mayers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perry on the ground. Mayers is really stuck here.
Mayers is working hard here to advance position. Well, with Perry on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Mayers is tapping out... Can he escape the position? Perry is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Mayers with him. Mayers is trying to defend but Perry has an arm under the chin now! Mayers grimaces and is forced to tap out!
