PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shaine Corovin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and PJ Benn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shaine Corovin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, PJ Benn!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corovin shoots in but Benn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Crunch! Benn slams his shin into Corovin's torso.

Benn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Corovin to the mat! Corovin manages to get full guard.
Benn trying to stand up but can't free himself from Corovin's guard.
Corovin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Corovin working for a triangle but Benn defends it easily.

Corovin is pulling down on Benn's head to control his posture.

Corovin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Corovin tries to get out of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Benn wants to control from the top but Corovin keeps moving.

Corovin has his foot on Benn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Benn works his way back into a safe position though.

Benn wants to get up but he can't break Corovin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Benn.
Corovin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Benn. Benn obviously looking to wear him down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Benn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Benn lands in his opponent's guard.

Benn decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Benn throws a quick inside leg kick.
Horrible takedown by Corovin or perhaps it was just good defense by Benn which made him look bad.
Benn stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Benn wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shaine Corovin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Corovin gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Benn.
Corovin takes an elbow to the temple.
Benn lands an elbow inside.
Corovin blocks the elbow strike.
Corovin fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Corovin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Benn pulls his leg out and moves away.
Benn doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Corovin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Corovin is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Corovin wants to free his trapped foot but Benn is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Corovin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Benn's head.
Corovin prevents Benn from standing back up.

Benn manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Benn shoots in looking for a takedown. Corovin tries to sprawl out of it but Benn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Corovin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Benn shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Corovin defends it nicely.

Benn dives in and scores a takedown into Corovin's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Benn wants to get up but he can't break Corovin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Corovin has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Benn off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Corovin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Benn throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Corovin avoids the elbow strike from Benn, against the cage.
Benn misses with an elbow over the top.
Corovin blocks an elbow strike from Benn.
Corovin avoids a wild elbow strike from Benn.

Corovin turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Corovin manages to end up in side control.
Corovin in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Benn is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Corovin has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Corovin is chipping away with strikes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shaine Corovin will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Corovin.
Benn takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Benn wants to control but Corovin postures up.
Corovin lands an elbow.


It looks like PJ Benn has been cut.
Corovin scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Benn to see if he's OK.
Benn is looking to reverse the position.
Corovin in side control lands a decent elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Corovin cracks Benn with an elbow. That is naaassty.

That has opened up PJ Benn's cut even more.
Corovin lands a nice forearm strike.


The cut above PJ Benn's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

PJ Benn's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at PJ Benn's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Shaine Corovin!
