Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Pearce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Tavares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Pearce! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad Tavares! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tavares misses with a takedown attempt
and Pearce counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Pearce thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Pearce landing with the ground and pound. Tavares wants to stand and escape but Pearce is having none of it. Pearce postures up and lands a big shot to Tavares's brow. Pearce distracts Tavares with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Pearce throws a big right hand that misses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pearce content to stall in guard here. Tavares keeping moving, preventing Pearce from controlling successfully.
 That's one minute gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pearce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pearce throwing strikes but missing. Pearce is looking to work some ground and pound but Tavares has wrist control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tavares can do anything to dispel that myth. Pearce loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Tavares looks gassed! Pearce slips nicely into half guard. Pearce sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tavares defending well though. Pearce lands strikes from half guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Pearce is nestled in close to Tavares, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Pearce missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Pearce moves nicely into side control. Tavares is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Pearce is working to tighten is grip on Tavares's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Tavares has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Pearce is really squeezing tight and eventually Tavares passes out! Pearce breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Matt Pearce!
