Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rowan Carreira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sergio Morales! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morales throws a left and a right that both miss
and Carreira counters with a takedown into side control. Carreira trying to control the action but Morales is working from the bottom. The ground and pound from Carreira seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Carreira tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Morales wants to get back to his feet but Carreira drags him back down. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carreira trying to control the action but Morales is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carreira in side control, throwing shots but Morales defends. Carreira trying to control the action but Morales is working from the bottom. Carreira is really struggling to control Morales but he's trying to hold on to the position. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Morales is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Carreira is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Morales knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Morales sneaks out the side door and pushes Carreira away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Morales closes the distance and lands a one-two. Morales throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Carreira holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carreira is working for takedown but Morales is calmly controlling the position for now. Morales wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Morales gets underhooks to prevent Carreira's takedown attempt.
Morales breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Carreira ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Morales moves away. Carreira misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Morales connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Morales fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Morales lands with a good body shot. Morales wants to slow Carreira down by chopping away at his legs. Morales uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Carreira has time to react. Morales throws a combination that misses and Carreira makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. A low kick from Morales is predictable there and Carreira moves into the clinch. Morales manages to break the clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Morales. Those never looked like landing. Morales throws a body kick the misses and Carreira counters with a single leg into guard. Morales didn't expect that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Carreira trying to control but Morales is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carreira prevents Morales from getting back to his feet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Morales can do anything to dispel that myth. Carreira gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Morales digs a good body shot into Carreira's ribs. Morales misses with a combination
and Carreira counters with a single leg into guard. Morales didn't expect that. Morales really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carreira. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Carreira is breathing heavily. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Morales holds on and takes a little breather. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rowan Carreira dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Morales, as that shot connected.
Morales wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Morales connects with a right hand. Carreira shakes it off. Morales lands a slapping body shot.
Morales stuns Carreira with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. A low kick from Morales misses and Carreira counters by clinching up. Morales breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Morales swings away with a leg kick that misses. Morales throws a leg kick and Carreira counters with a takedown into side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Morales is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Carreira has just dragged him back down to the mat. Carreira staying calm. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Carreira tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morales wants to get back to his feet. Carreira wants to lay and pray for a moment but Morales keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A lull in the action here as Carreira stalls from top position. Carreira is looking to take a break and control but Morales is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Rowan Carreira just wasn't active enough. Morales throws a series of strikes that have Carreira backpedaling.
It looks like Rowan Carreira has been cut. Nice shot by Morales. Carreira tries to clinch but fails miserably and Morales makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Sergio Morales is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morales lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Morales scores with a hook. Morales throws a right hand that Carreira ducks under and follows up with a left that Carreira also avoids with ease. Morales works Carreira's body with a nice hook. Morales misses with a low kick.
Morales lands a nice hook to Carreira's body. Carreira takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Morales scores with a hook to the body. Carreira takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Morales lands a left and a right that send Carreira crashing to the mat, dazed. Morales thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Carreira is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carreira backs away from a small jab...but Morales lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Carreira crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Morales with a spectacular finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Sergio Morales!
