PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Manunu Igi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Per Skinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Skinn is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Decibollene - Ryggen Fri. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manunu Igi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Per Skinn!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Skinn shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Igi is trying to defend but Skinn finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Skinn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Igi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Skinn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Igi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Igi wants to improve his position but Skinn is controlling well.

Skinn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Igi is just riding it out for now. Skinn eventually gives up the hold.
Skinn is looking to take a break and control but Igi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Igi is looking to control Skinn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Igi avoid being mounted?

Skinn seems to be looking for submissions.
Igi keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Skinn throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Skinn thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Skinn thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Igi's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Igi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Skinn is trying to control. Igi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Igi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Skinn on the ground.
Skinn throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Skinn thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Igi is staying active underneath Skinn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Skinn landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Skinn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Igi is just riding it out for now. Skinn eventually gives up the hold.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Skinn connects with a nice short shot to Igi's temple.
Skinn passes to full mount!

Igi is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Igi defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Skinn.
Igi wants to control but Skinn is having none of it.

Skinn throws some wild stikes that Igi manages to avoid easily.
Skinn scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Igi?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Igi throwing hammer fists to the chest of Skinn. What's that going to do exactly?

Skinn is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Igi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Igi shrugs it off.
Skinn prevents Igi from getting the reversal.
Skinn throwing strikes here but Igi is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Skinn landing strikes, looking to finish!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Skinn is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Igi has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Igi is looking to get to half guard.

Poor strikes thrown by Skinn there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Skinn breaks from Igi's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Skinn lands a big elbow - Igi is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Igi is forced to tap out!
