PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Forest Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stran Gler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Forest Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stran Gler!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gler tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bird sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gler somewhat.
Nice sprawl there from Bird as Gler shoots in.
A lazy left from Bird finds it's target.

Bird has closed the distance and engaged Gler in a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Gler has Bird pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bird manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Forest Bird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stran Gler.

Bird is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gler can't fight it off and eventually Bird manages to take the fight to the floor. Gler looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gler wants to stand up but Bird is controlling him.
Gler not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gler keeping full guard, as Bird tries to pass.

Bird drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gler dives on top into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gler stops Bird from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bird pushes Gler off and gets back to his feet.

Bird clinches.

Bird has clasped his hands together around Gler's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Bird throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Bird is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gler has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gler is trying to control Bird's posture but Bird avoids it.
Gler manages to get back to half guard.
Gler wants to improve his position but Bird is controlling well.

Gler actively working from the bottom here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bird is looking for a kimura but Gler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bird to get the leverage.
Gler connecting with a few gentle strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gler trying to control but Bird postures up.
Bird sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gler defending well though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gler wants to get back to full guard.
Bird thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gler's head.
Bird not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Gler is defending against the submission attempts here by Bird.
Gler tries to roll over but Bird keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bird is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gler defends it well.
Gler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gler trying to control from the bottom.
Gler keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Bird is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gler sees it coming and defends easily.

Bird is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Gler is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Forest Bird!
