Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stig Helmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mickey McMichaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McMichaels has chosen When Irish Eyes are Smiling - John McCormack as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McMichaels throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Helmer scores with a takedown into McMichaels's guard. McMichaels working a defensive guard here.
Helmeris looking to pass into half guard but McMichaels pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now McMichaels is in guard. Helmer working a defensive guard here.
Helmer working for a triangle but McMichaels defends it easily.
McMichaels postures up in Helmer's guard and throws a big left but Helmer blocks it. McMichaels wants to control from the top but Helmer keeps moving. McMichaels slips nicely into half guard.

Helmer is looking for a sweep. McMichaels is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Helmer is staying active underneath McMichaels, who seems content to just control the action from this position. McMichaels stops Helmer from getting back to his feet.

Helmer is looking to get back to full guard here but McMichaels has managed to pass to side control instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Helmer is looking to regain half guard here but McMichaels keeps moving and retains side control. McMichaels is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Helmer has escaped the position, nice work there. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Helmer manages to work his way to half guard, despite McMichaels's best efforts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McMichaels trying to pass the guard but Helmer defending well. McMichaels seems to be working for a kimura but Helmer defends the submission attempt. McMichaels tries to pass the half guard into mount. Helmer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Helmer tries to kick McMichaels off in order to stand up. McMichaels Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Helmer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McMichaels wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Helmer is breathing heavily. Helmer looking for a sweep but McMichaels has passed into full mount! Oh no! Helmer is looking to improve his position but McMichaels isn't that keen on the idea. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McMichaels has hold of Helmer's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Helmer manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Helmer tries to hold on but McMichaels pushes him away. McMichaels looking to finish with strikes here!

McMichaels throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Helmer holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as McMichaels tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
McMichaels looking for a guillotine from mount but Helmer is having none of it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McMichaels tries to control but Helmer wriggling away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mickey McMichaels dominated that round. The cut man is working on Stig Helmer's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Helmer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging McMichaels to the ground. Helmer is now in McMichaels's guard. Helmer avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
