PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Marr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burt Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marr kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Falls. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Marr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Burt Ward!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marr fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ward sprawls well initially but Marr persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Ward tries to get to full guard but Marr has control of the leg.
Ward is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Ward looking for submissions off his back.

Marr wants to take a breather but Ward is having none of it.
Marr is controlling the pace.
Marr is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Ward is looking to improve his position but Marr isn't that keen on the idea.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marr landing punches.
Marr throwing strikes here but Ward is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Ward is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ward is squirming around, avoiding Marr's attempts to control the action.
Marr punching from mount but Ward doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Marr trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ward is trying to escape the mount.
Marr with shots to the head and body - Ward looks very uncomfortable down there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Marr blocks Ward's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ward is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ward is squirming around, avoiding Marr's attempts to control the action.
Marr content just to control the position here.
Marr landing strikes from the mount.
Marr fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Ward keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Marr lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ward hang on?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marr looking to finish Ward with some ground and pound. This is bad for Ward!

Marr looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Ward is desperately trying to improve his position but Marr has a good base and remains in mount.
Ward looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ward is in a horrible position here. Marr smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Marr takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Ward is in bad spot here.
Ward breaks Marr's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Ward thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Marr trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Ward loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Marr lands a right hook to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A head kick misses from Marr.
Ward swats away the attempt to clinch by Marr.
Marr tests Ward's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Ward circles away from the clinch attempt.
Marr tries to clinch but Ward moves out of range.
Ward wants to clinch up but Marr keeps it at a distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Marr closes the distance but Ward moves to the side

and Ward counters by moving into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Marr dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Ward gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ward pushes a forearm under Marr's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Marr is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Burt Ward!
