The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Richmond Junior closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Richmond Junior lands in his opponent's guard. Pompies looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Richmond Junior advances to half guard. Richmond Junior wants to free his trapped foot but Pompies is holding on for dear life with his legs. Richmond Junior is trying to work for a kimura but Pompies is defending well.
Richmond Junior thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pompies's head. Pompies trying to control from the bottom.
Richmond Junior wants to stand up but Pompies has a hold of him and won't allow it. Richmond Junior is looking for a kimura but Pompies is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Richmond Junior to get the leverage. Richmond Junior is working for a kimura but Pompies is defending it quite comfortably.
Richmond Junior is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's one minute gone in the round. Richmond Junior passes the guard and advances to mount! Richmond Junior looking for a guillotine from mount but Pompies is having none of it. Richmond Junior thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Richmond Junior looking for a guillotine from mount but Pompies is having none of it. Richmond Junior throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Pompies because Richmond Junior loaded up on that one. Richmond Junior jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Pompies manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by Richmond Junior. Richmond Junior thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Richmond Junior advances to full mount. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Richmond Junior has hold of Pompies's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pompies manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Richmond Junior is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pompies can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Pompies defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Richmond Junior.
