Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Manuel Marquez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luke Upton!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Upton tries to avoid it but Marquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Upton to the ground. Upton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Marquez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Upton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Upton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Upton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Upton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Upton throws a lazy uppercut
and Marquez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Marquez shoots in for a double leg but Upton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Marquez thows a body shot but no joy.
Marquez digs a good hook to Upton's body.
Marquez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Marquez throws a body punch but Upton moves out of range.
Upton connects with a solid leg kick.
Nice body punch from Marquez.
Upton misses with an uppercut
and Marquez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Marquez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Upton moves away.
Marquez ducks under a wild hook from Upton.
Marquez looks for a takedown but Upton sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Manuel Marquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters circling - Upton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Marquez takes a swing at Upton's ribcage but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Upton throws a sloppy head kick and Marquez moves out of range easily.
Upton misses with a combination

and Marquez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Upton looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Marquez seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Marquez wants to take a breather but Upton is having none of it.
Upton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Marquez wants to stand but Upton has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Upton is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Upton drops back looking for a leg! Marquez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Marquez manages to kick Upton off! Upton jumps back into Marquez's guard.
Marquez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Upton manages to pass to side control.
Marquez is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marquez is trying to stand back up but Upton is controlling him

Upton is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Upton working the head and body with strikes.
Marquez is looking to escape.

Upton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Marquez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Upton.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Upton prevents Marquez from standing back up.
Marquez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Upton scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Marquez is defending against the submission attempts here by Upton.
Marquez tries to kick Upton off but Upton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Upton moves nicely into side control.

Upton tries for a kimura but Marquez is defending well.
Upton works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Upton is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Marquez is trying to escape and Upton transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Marquez is forced to tap! Nice work there by Upton! Very nice indeed!
