The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Li misses the body punch and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. Li fights it but they end up in guard. Li pulls Johnson in close to his closed guard and prevents Johnson from doing any damage or advancing position. Li controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself. Johnson with a flurry of punches that miss. Johnson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Li looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Li working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson. Li has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though. Li wants to sweep but no luck. Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Johnson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Johnson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Li can do anything to dispel that myth. Johnson connects with a couple of short punches. Johnson throwing strikes but missing. Johnson trying to control but Li is working from the bottom. Johnson postures up and lands a big shot to Li's brow. Johnson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Li working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Johnson. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Li is on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Li avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Li slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Li working away. Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Li landing strikes. Li wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working. Li connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Johnson some visible discomfort.
Li cracks Johnson with an elbow. That is naaassty. Johnson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Li connects with a decent elbow. Li trying to control the action but Johnson is working from the bottom. Johnson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Johnson wants to control but Li passes into side.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Li working the ground and pound but Johnson is defending the strikes. Li goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Johnson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Li's guard! Nice work there by Johnson! Li looking for a guillotine here but Johnson defends easily.
Johnson cracks Li with a solid left hand. Li manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Johnson is looking to get to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ricky Dale Johnson will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Johnson throws a jab when Li was well out of range. Johnson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Johnson pushes a forearm under Li's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Li is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
