PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shane Falco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luther Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pope has chosen No Sunshine as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Falco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luther Pope!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope blocks a jab.
Pope chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Pope ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Falco moves away.
Pope takes a swing at Falco's ribcage but misses.
Falco ducks under a wild hook from Pope.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pope throws a leg kick
and Pope takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Pope lands with a straight right. Falco didn't see that one coming.
A low kick from Falco misses
and Pope counters with a nice uppercut.
Pope throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Falco lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Pope misses with a body shot
and Falco cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Falco moves in looking to clinch but Pope pushes him off.
Falco wants to slow Pope down by chopping away at his legs.
Pope throws a combination that misses
and Falco counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Donk. Pope catches Falco right on the button with a cross.

Pope throws a poor cross that misses
and Falco counters with a thumping low kick.
Pope fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Falco manages to avoid it.
Pope keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Pope sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Pope tries to clinch but Falco is having none of it.

Pope misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Falco has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Pope.
Pope throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pope throws a right and a left that Falco avoids nicely.
Pope misses with a lunging right hand
and Falco counters with a two punch combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Falco dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Falco throws an overhand right that lands on Pope's shoulder, as Pope tries to avoid the shot.
Falco uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pope has time to react.
Falco throws out a powerful jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Falco misses with a hook
and Pope counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Falco defending well as Pope loads up on a big left hand.

Pope just misses with a punch to the body.
Pope will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
That kick from Pope tenderised Falco's leg. Falco is trying to keep his angry face on.
Falco misses with the combination.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pope is looking to chop away at Falco's legs.

and Falco counters with a head kick.
Pope throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Falco to counter with a crisp jab.
Pope swats away the attempt to clinch by Falco.

Pope throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shane Falco is winning the standup battle so far.
Falco throws out a leg kick but Pope moves out of range and Falco only half commits.
Falco moves out of range of the body kick from Pope.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pope looks to land a combination. Falco sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Pope looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Falco swings away with a body shot that misses
and Pope counters with a stiff right hand.
Luther Pope seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Falco lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Pope has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Pope and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Falco falls off balance throwing a combination
and Pope counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Shane Falco will probably get the nod.
That's time! Falco's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Pope tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Falco was well out of range. Poor timing from Pope.

Pope throws a lazy uppercut
and Falco counters with a good low kick that Pope was not able to check.

and Falco counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

and Pope counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Sloppy strikes from Falco. Those never looked like landing.
Falco works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Nice defenses there by Falco.
Luther Pope has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

and Pope makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

and Pope counters with a nice body shot.
Pope slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Falco throws a hook to the side of Pope's head but Pope sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Pope throws the kick towards the body but Falco avoids it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pope throws a leg kick
and Falco counters with an outside leg kick.
Shane Falco is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Falco misses with a looping left.
Pope misses with a body shot
and Falco counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A solid leg kick lands there for Pope.
Falco works Pope's body with a nice hook.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shane Falco.
Well Falco has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
