PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rick Sherpard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Roscoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sherpard kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Locust. Roscoe has chosen Forgot About Dre as his entrance music. Rick Sherpard has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Sherpard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damien Roscoe!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roscoe pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Roscoe tries to clinch up but Sherpard circles away and keeps his distance.
Roscoe tries to clinch up.
Sherpard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sherpard tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Roscoe paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sherpard closes the distance looking to clinch
and Roscoe counters with a two punch combo.
Roscoe closes the distance and clinches up with Sherpard, looking for a takedown. Roscoe pushes Sherpard against the cage but Sherpard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Roscoe drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sherpard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Roscoe manages to get himself to full guard.

Sherpard gets to his feet. Roscoe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roscoe gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Roscoe wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sherpard has him pressed against the cage.
Roscoe wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Roscoe breaks the clinch.
Sherpard checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Roscoe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Roscoe decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Roscoe slips a nice elbow through Sherpard's hands, connecting with Sherpard's forehead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sherpard trying to hold on to Roscoe's head to control him but Roscoe postures up.
Roscoe tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sherpard knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sherpard makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sherpard.
Sherpard is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sherpard is breathing heavily.
Roscoe wants to stand but Sherpard is controlling his posture from full guard.
Roscoe wants to control from the top but Sherpard keeps moving.
Roscoe is looking to stand up but Sherpard won't let him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sherpard shoots in but Roscoe avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Roscoe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sherpard tries to avoid it but Roscoe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sherpard to the ground. Sherpard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Sherpard counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rick Sherpard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Roscoe.
Sherpard lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Roscoe has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sherpard is working away from the top position though.
Roscoe pushes Sherpard off looking to stand but Sherpard dives back in and keeps control.
Roscoe is trying to get back to full guard.
Roscoe tries to kick Sherpard off but Sherpard keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Roscoe is trying to get back to full guard.
Sherpard prevents Roscoe from standing back up.
Sherpard missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Roscoe scores with a body shot.
Roscoe scores with a jab to the head.


It looks like Rick Sherpard has been cut.
Damien Roscoe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sherpard changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Roscoe has his takedown stuffed

and Sherpard counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Roscoe!

Roscoe is trying to escape the mount.
Roscoe trying desperately to get to his feet.
Roscoe working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Sherpard with the ground and pound from mount.
Sherpard working the ground and pound effectively.
Roscoe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sherpard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sherpard sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Sherpard is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Roscoe can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Roscoe is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sherpard has hold of Roscoe's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Roscoe manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Sherpard lands a heavy elbow.
Sherpard looking to control but Roscoe is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Roscoe is looking to get to half guard.
Sherpard content just to control the position here.
Sherpard trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Roscoe is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rick Sherpard will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Roscoe rushes Sherpard and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Roscoe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Roscoe lands with an uppercut that bounces Sherpard off the cage and back into rage.
Roscoe falls off balance throwing a combination

and Sherpard counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Roscoe is trying to stand back up but Sherpard is controlling him
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roscoe can do anything to dispel that myth.
Roscoe is pressing down on Sherpard's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sherpard wants to control from the top but Roscoe keeps moving.
Sherpard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roscoe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sherpard stops Roscoe from standing up.
Sherpard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Roscoe throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Sherpard is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sherpard pushing down on Roscoe's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Sherpard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Roscoe is breathing heavily.
Still in half guard, Sherpard seems content to control.

Sherpard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roscoe is just riding it out for now. Sherpard eventually gives up the hold.
Roscoe is looking to improve his position.
Well, if Sherpard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roscoe wants to get back to his feet.
Sherpard is trying to control the action in half guard but Roscoe is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Roscoe tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Roscoe taking some punishment here, with Sherpard in his half guard.
Sherpard working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Well, if Sherpard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Roscoe tries to reverse the position but Sherpard maintains control.

Roscoe wants to hold on but Sherpard pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roscoe is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sherpard controlling from the full mount.
Roscoe tries to hold on but Sherpard postures up.
Roscoe wants to get back to his feet.

Roscoe tries to improve his position but Sherpard has taken his back! Sherpard has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Roscoe tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Sherpard pushes Roscoe away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rick Sherpard!
