The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samuals blocks a head kick by Mott.
Samuals throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Mott counters with an inside leg kick.
Samuals on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Samuals moves to clinch but Mott breaks away
and Mott counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Mott looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Samuals has taken the fight to the clinch.

Mott is trying to trip Samuals. He has hold of a leg but Samuals is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mott persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Samuals is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mott would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

and Mott makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

That's time! Mott's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Samuals takes a head kick and keeps coming.

and Mott counters with a slapping leg kick.

A looping hook to the body misses from Mott. Samuals does a little dance to reset his feet.

Mott throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Mott counters with a series of strikes. Samuals will be more careful next time no doubt.

Samuals feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Samuals feints and as Mott raises his hands in defense, Samuals changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mott wants to stand up but Samuals is controlling him.
Samuals seems to have recovered his senses.
Samuals engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Samuals stops Mott from standing up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Samuals trying to control the position from guard on top but Mott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Mott is looking to stand up but Samuals isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sam Samuals wasn't active enough on the ground.

and Mott counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Samuals shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mott but Mott pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mott throws a series of punches but Samuals avoids them all with ease.
Samuals moves out of range of the leg kick from Mott.
Mott scores with the left hand. Samuals knows he should have avoided that one.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Samuals closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mott did well to prevent Samuals getting side control.

Samuals frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Samuals looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Samuals is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mott to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mott shrugs it off.
Samuals has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mott's face.
Samuals lands a big shot there that rocks Mott but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Mott squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Samuals looking to control but Mott is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Samuals is looking to work his way around to Mott's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Samuals struggling to keep hold of the position.

Samuals really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Mott.
Mott controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

John Mott is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Well, with Samuals on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Mott is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Mott is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
