Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Yoshida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mizuro Goenji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mizuro Goenji is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Yoshida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mizuro Goenji!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goenji lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Goenji shoots for a double leg takedown but Yoshida sprawls well. He's pushed Goenji's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Goenji shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yoshida but Yoshida pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Goenji doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Yoshida cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mark Yoshida has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mizuro Goenji.
Goenji tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Yoshida swivels and escapes.
Goenji tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yoshida sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Goenji somewhat.

and Yoshida counters with a left to the body.
Yoshida fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Goenji manages to avoid it.
Yoshida throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Goenji fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Nice defenses there by Yoshida.
Yoshida just misses with a punch to the body.
No luck for Goenji with that takedown attempt.
Goenji looks to land a right hand but Yoshida moved out of range.
Mizuro Goenji seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A combination from Yoshida does no damage.
Goenji shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yoshida defends it nicely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Goenji decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Goenji is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Yoshida to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Yoshida pulls Goenji in close to his closed guard and prevents Goenji from doing any damage or advancing position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Goenji accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mizuro Goenji will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Yoshida throws a body punch but Goenji moves out of range.
Yoshida is looking to wear down Goenji with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Goenji fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Yoshida misses the shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goenji shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yoshida as he jumps to the side.
Yoshida keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Goenji shoots for a takedown but Yoshida saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Yoshida counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Yoshida throws a strike but Goenji rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Goenji wants to control from the top but Yoshida keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshida wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Goenji postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Yoshida is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Goenji, into his guard.
Goenji is trying to control the position but Yoshida postures up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Yoshida thows a big elbow that misses.
Yoshida loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Goenji tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Yoshida has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Yoshida with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Yoshida scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Goenji is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Yoshida is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Yoshida has escaped and now he's on top!

Yoshidais looking to pass into half guard but Goenji pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Goenji is in guard.
Yoshida looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Yoshida is adopting a defensive guard.
Yoshida looking to hit a scissor sweep but Goenji is one step ahead there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yoshida pulls Goenji in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Yoshida dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Yoshida ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Goenji moves away.
No joy there for Yoshida, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goenji thows a left - swing and a miss!

and Goenji counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Goenji shoots in but no luck this time.

and Yoshida counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

and Yoshida counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Yoshida counters with a shoot takedown. Goenji fights it but they end up in guard.

Yoshida wants to control from the top but Goenji keeps moving.

Yoshida postures up and lands a big shot to Goenji's brow.

Goenji wriggles free and stands up.
Mizuro Goenji is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yoshida. Goenji does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Goenji looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yoshida is fending him off so far but Goenji persists. Nope, Yoshida circles away and we're back to standing.

Goenji fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Yoshida avoids it really well and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Goenji enables Yoshida to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Goenji manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Yoshida showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Yoshida has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
