Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Price! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Stewart! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Price fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Price tries to close the distance and clinch but Stewart swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Stewart slaps away a takedown attempt from Price, before circling back to the center of the mat. Stewart takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Stewart looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Stewart shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Stewart punching from mount but Price doing a good job of avoiding damage. Stewart working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Stewart misses with a head shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stewart looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Stewart is in the full mount, landing strikes. Stewart looking to ground and pound but Price is blocking nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stewart looking to finish Price with some ground and pound. This is bad for Price! Price slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Stewart is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Price has managed to free his arm - good work. Price is looking to escape. Stewart decides to stand up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Price jabbing away but nothing is landing. Price tries for a takedown but Stewart circles away easily and Stewart counters with a nice double leg into side control. Price won't be happy with that. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Price. That's going to take a lot out of him. Price is breathing heavily. Stewart looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Stewart stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stewart fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Price avoids it really well and circles away. Stewart looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Stewart closes the distance and clinches up with Price, looking for a takedown. Stewart pushes Price against the cage but Price circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nice takedown defense from Price. No joy for Stewart on that attempt. This has been an exciting period of action! Price tries to clinch but Stewart moves out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Stewart dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Stewart fails with a takedown attempt. Price fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. A punch combination from Price misses. Price looks for a takedown but Stewart sprawls well. Stewart misses with a takedown attempt - Price sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Stewart shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Price but Price pushes him off and we're back to square one. Steven Price has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Stewart.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stewart stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stewart wants it to stay on the feet. Stewart shoots in for a takedown but Price shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Stewart fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Price, pushing him back against the cage. Stewart decides to pull guard. Stewart wants to sweep here but Price controlling him for the moment. Paul Stewart has got the better of the ground game so far. Price pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stewart is keeping the position for now. Stewart is looking for a triangle but Price pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stewart tries to land a sweep but no joy. Price tries to free his leg and advance position but Stewart is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Price wants to control from the top but Stewart keeps moving. Stewart controls Price momentarily but Price frees himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Stewart doesn't manage to clinch there - Price circles away.
Price gets tackled into the cage by Stewart. Stewart maintains the clinch. Stewart is working for takedown but Price is calmly controlling the position for now. Price jumps guard and drags Stewart to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Stewart slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Price has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stewart can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stewart engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Stewart trying to control but Price is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Stewart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Price will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Price shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Stewart fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Price avoids it really well and circles away. Stewart looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Price tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Left hook, right uppercut from Price. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stewart looking to score a takedown here. Price is defending well but Stewart drives through and ends up in Price's guard. Price keeping moving, preventing Stewart from controlling successfully. Stewart got a little sloppy there for a moment and Price has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stewart has managed to get both his arms back between Price's legs - danger averted. Stewart is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Paul Stewart was stalling too much, according to the referee. Stewart is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Price's half guard. Stewart trying to mount his opponent but Price defends it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stewart moves into full mount! Price won't be happy about that! Stewart controlling his opponent. Stewart tries to control but Price wriggling away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stewart controlling from mount. Stewart gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
And that's the end of the fight! Paul Stewart comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Stewart winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
