Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leon Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bjorn Haegeland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leon Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bjorn Haegeland!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez avoids the head kick by Haegeland.

Haegeland got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mendez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Haegeland has managed to get both his arms back between Mendez's legs - danger averted.

Haegeland manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mendez on his heels. He'll look to pass Mendez's guard now, I'm sure.

Mendez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Haegeland can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mendez enables Haegeland to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mendez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


A left and a right from Haegeland both land. Nice combination.

Haegeland ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Well Haegeland has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
