PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Besik Busik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marshall comes to the cage accompanied by Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Besik Busik!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Marshall misses

and Busik counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Busik works his way into side control.

Busik decides to stand back up. Busik steps back and let's Marshall get back to his feet.
Busik scores with a head kick.
Busik tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Marshall counters with a right hand to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Busik moves into the clinch.
Marshall lands a nice shot to the body.

Marshall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Marshall decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Marshall knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Busik on the ground.
Marshall trying to pass the guard but Busik defending well.
Busik is pressing down on Marshall's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Busik looks gassed!
Marshall wants to pass the guard but Busik is keeping the position.
Marshall scoring with punches to the head and body.

Busik has a closed guard, preventing Marshall from standing up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Busik can do anything to dispel that myth.
Marshall trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Busik is trying to control the position but Marshall postures up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Besik Busik hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marshall looks for a takedown but Busik sprawls well.

Marshall instigates a clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Marshall has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Busik is trying to keep an underhook but Marshall manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Busik is looking to improve his position.
Marshall controlling the pace.
Marshall trying to control the action but Busik is working from the bottom.
Marshall lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Busik slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Marshall slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Marshall wants to control from the top but Busik keeps moving.
Busik wants to sweep but no luck.
Marshall distracts Busik with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Marshall works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Busik is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Marshall performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Busik wants to get back to full guard.
Marshall is thwarting Busik's attempts to control the position.
Busik is looking to escape.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Marshall connects with a nice short shot to Busik's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marshall scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Marshall is pressing down on Busik's thigh, looking to free his foot. Busik is holding on for now.

Marshall is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Busik has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Marshall dominated that round.
That's time! Marshall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Marshall throws a head kick but Busik moves out of range.
Marshall pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Marshall tries to land a body kick

and Busik counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Marshall!
Busik looking to control but Marshall is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Marshall tries to lock up and control but Busik gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
A nice elbow there by Busik.
Busik won't let Marshall get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Busik lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Marshall tries to buck Busik off but he can't manage it.
Busik content just to control the position here.
Busik lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Marshall hang on?
You get the feeling that Marshall really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Marshall looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Busik is looking to control Marshall but Marshall is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Marshall is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Busik controlling from the back.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Busik. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Marshall tries to escape the position.

Busik is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Marshall taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Busik.
