PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Fitzgerald Iii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Fitzgerald Iii!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Lou da Vinci and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Fitzgerald Iii crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Jack - the referee stops the clock and Fitzgerald Iii gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Jack. Fitzgerald Iii manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Jack lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Jack throws a sloppy head kick and Fitzgerald Iii moves out of range easily.
Jack tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jack shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jack takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fitzgerald Iii swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Jack counters with a nice low kick that buckles Fitzgerald Iii's knee momentarily.
Fitzgerald Iii throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Jack counters with a nice body shot.
Fitzgerald Iii walks forward, straight into a front kick from Jack.
Jack misses with a takedown attempt

and Fitzgerald Iii counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jack won't be happy with that.
Fitzgerald Iii tries to advance to mount but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fitzgerald Iii looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jack is not content to let Fitzgerald Iii control the position.
Fitzgerald Iii tries to advance to mount but Jack denies him.

Fitzgerald Iii tries for a kimura but Jack is defending well.
Fitzgerald Iii trying to control the action but Jack is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jack wants to control but Fitzgerald Iii postures up.
Jack is looking for a sweep.

Fitzgerald Iii tries for a kimura but Jack is defending well.

Fitzgerald Iii goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jack rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Fitzgerald Iii's guard! Nice work there by Jack!

Fitzgerald Iii has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jack can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jack trying to control the position from guard on top but Fitzgerald Iii is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fitzgerald Iii pulls Jack in to control the position.
Jack wants to control from the top but Fitzgerald Iii keeps moving.
Jack won't allow Fitzgerald Iii to sweep him here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Fitzgerald Iii working for a triangle but Jack defends it easily.
Jack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jack trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fitzgerald Iii's guard.
Jack pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fitzgerald Iii is keeping the position for now.
Fitzgerald Iii manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jack manages to get himself to full guard.
Fitzgerald Iii passes Jack's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Fitzgerald Iii looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jack trying to control here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Fitzgerald Iii dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Fitzgerald Iii counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fitzgerald Iii tries to free his leg and advance position but Jack is retaining full guard.
Jack keeping moving, preventing Fitzgerald Iii from controlling successfully.
Fitzgerald Iii slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Fitzgerald Iii trying to control the position but Jack is working away.

Fitzgerald Iii is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Jack is trying to escape and Fitzgerald Iii transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Jack is forced to tap! Nice work there by Fitzgerald Iii! Very nice indeed!
