PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Karl Jee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jee comes to the cage accompanied by Get The Funk Out Of My Face. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Karl Jee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jee fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.
Johnson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jee just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jee lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Jee tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Jee makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Jee breaks from the clinch.
Jee misses with a kick to the body.
Karl Jee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jee fails with an attempt to clinch.

Jee lands a big head kick that sends Johnson tumbling to the mat! Jee takes a step backwards and waves Johnson back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Johnson is rocked!


It looks like David Johnson has been cut.
Jee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Johnson looks for a takedown but Jee sprawls well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jee tries to clinch there but Johnson circles away.
Jee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jee fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jee tries to close the distance and clinch but Johnson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jee moves to clinch but Johnson breaks away

and Johnson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jee's guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Jee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jee manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Jee in his guard.
Jee wants to stand but Johnson is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jee gets to his feet. Johnson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Jee jabs Johnson to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Jee moves into the clinch successfully.

Johnson decides to pull guard.

Johnson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jee gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jee stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Johnson looks for a takedown but Jee sprawls well.
Karl Jee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Johnson.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jee closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jee lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Jee lands a hook that snaps the head of Johnson backwards.
Jee throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Johnson blocks it with crossed arms.

Jee manages to break the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jee is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.
Jee fails in his attempt to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Jee which made him look bad.
Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jee counters with a head kick that drops Johnson to the mat! Johnson scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Johnson is still on wobbly legs! Can Jee finish him?
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt

and Jee holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Johnson seems to have recovered his senses.
Johnson takes a knee right on the jaw!

That's five minutes gone in the round.

Jee escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jee has taken the fight to the clinch.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A short right from Jee on the inside.
Still in the clinch, Jee scores with a nice short uppercut.
Jee tries a knee to the head but Johnson blocks it.
Johnson tries to pull guard but Jee holds him up against the cage and eventually Johnson drops back down to his feet.
Johnson fails to pull guard.
Jee lands an uppercut.
Jee tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Jee manages to break the clinch.
Jee lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Johnson at a distance.
Jee tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

That's six minutes gone in the round.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt

and Johnson counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Jee's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jee closes the distance and pushes Johnson back into the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jee lands a knee to the head.
Jee throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Johnsons head.

Jee manages to break the clinch.
Jee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jee throws a powerful right kick. Johnson tried to block low but the kick was high! Johnson was taken right off of his feet! Jee jumps in to finish the job and the ref tackles him! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Karl Jee!
