PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mister Rising (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Niwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mister Rising!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Niwa!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niwa closes the distance but Rising moves to the side
and Rising counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Rising tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Niwa closes the distance but Rising moves to the side
and Rising counters with a left to the body.
Mister Rising is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rising swings widly with a right hand

and Niwa counters with a shoot takedown. Rising fights it but they end up in guard.
Rising pulls Niwa in close to prevent any damage.
Niwa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Niwa won't allow Rising to get back to his feet.
Rising seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Rising controls Niwa momentarily but Niwa frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Mister Rising wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Niwa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rising as he jumps to the side.
Niwa tries to clinch but Rising moves away
and Rising counters with an inside leg kick.
Niwa tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Rising cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Niwa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rising keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rising has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Niwa is working away from the top position though.
Rising is trying to get back to full guard.
Rising slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Rising looking to control.
Niwa is standing up over Rising. Rising looks to escape but Niwa dives into side control.
Rising can't do much from the bottom here.
Rising is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Niwa has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Rising tries to improve position but can't.

Niwa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rising knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Niwa prevents Rising from escaping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Niwa dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Rising throws a sloppy head kick and Niwa moves out of range easily.
Rising throws a head kick that half lands.
Rising works over Niwa's head and body with a nice combination.
Michael Niwa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Niwa closes the distance but Rising moves to the side
and Rising counters with a head kick. That will keep Niwa thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Niwa fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Rising misses with an uppercut

and Niwa counters with a shoot takedown. Rising fights it but they end up in guard.
Rising controlling Niwa's posture.

Niwa stopping the sweep attempt from Rising.
Rising is working hard here to advance position.
Rising is looking to stand up but Niwa isn't so interested in that idea.

Niwa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rising looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Niwa puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Niwa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rising doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Niwa.
Niwa uses his free foot to push down on Rising's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rising.
Rising on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rising tries to get out of the position.

Niwa working for a guillotine from mount but Rising is in no mood to give up.

Niwa looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Niwa has isolated one of Rising's arms. Rising looking to fight him off but Niwa twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Michael Niwa!
