PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Dickens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Figari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Figari has chosen Here comes the boom as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Dickens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Figari!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Figari shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Figari should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Figari stands up and waves to Dickens to follow him.
Dickens lands a slapping body shot.

Figari shoots in and bounces Dickens off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dickens will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Figari postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Figari trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Figari must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dickens working for a triangle but Figari defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dickens throws his legs up looking for a submission but Figari uses it to pass to side control.
Dickens is trying to control Figari's posture but Figari avoids it.

Figari tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Figari has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Figari stands up and beckons Dickens to his feet.

Figari wants to pass the guard but Dickens is keeping the position.

Figari postures up.

Figari stands up and waves to Dickens to follow him.

Dickens gets caught flat footed, as Figari shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Figari looks gassed!

Dickens throws his legs up looking for a submission but Figari uses it to pass to side control.

Figari is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Dickens is trying to escape and Figari transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Dickens is forced to tap! Nice work there by Figari! Very nice indeed!
