PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Deamon Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pawel Zaremba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Speed might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to El-Magico. On his way into the cage it seems that Deamon Speed has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Deamon Speed seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pawel Zaremba!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zaremba closes the distance but Speed moves to the side

and Speed counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Speed.
Speed tries to pull guard but Zaremba holds him up against the cage and eventually Speed drops back down to his feet.
Speed tries for a takedown. No joy.
Zaremba prevents a takedown attempt there.

Speed jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Zaremba walks away with a smile on his face. Speed gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Speed is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Speed thows a huge punch but Zaremba dodges it nicely.
Speed is nestled in close to Zaremba, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Speed stands up and beckons Zaremba to join him on the feet.

Speed gets control of Zaremba's arms and successfully pulls guard. Speed will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Speed is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Speed tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Speed uses the cage to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Zaremba shoots in for a double leg but Speed sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Speed tries to close the distance and clinch but Zaremba swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Zaremba wants to clinch up but Speed keeps it at a distance.

Zaremba clinches with his opponent.
Speed tries to pull guard but Zaremba won't allow it.

Speed manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Zaremba stays in close to Speed's body and controls the position.
Speed wants to get back to his feet but Zaremba is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Speed pushes Zaremba off and scrambles back to his feet.
Deamon Speed is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Speed accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Speed postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Speed postures up in Zaremba's guard and throws a big left but Zaremba blocks it.
Zaremba working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Speed.
Speed throws and elbow that misses. Zaremba uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Speed's guard. Nice move by Zaremba!
Zaremba controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Zaremba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Speed bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zaremba's guard.
Speed trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Speed postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Zaremba wants to sweep here but Speed controlling him for the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zaremba can do anything to dispel that myth.
Speed postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Zaremba really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Speed. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Speed stands and throws Zaremba's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Speed could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Speed decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Speed lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Deamon Speed dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Speed getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Speed lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Zaremba has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Zaremba and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Zaremba throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Speed lands a leg kick that knocks Zaremba off balance momentarily.

Deamon Speed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Speed lands a jab to the head.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Speed, as that shot connected.
Zaremba throws a left and a right that both miss
and Speed counters with an outside leg kick.
Speed tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zaremba swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Speed showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Zaremba.
Zaremba has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Speed.
Zaremba's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Speed is looking to slow Zaremba down with leg kicks.
Speed throws a front kick aimed at Zaremba's knee but Zaremba avoids it well.

Speed has Zaremba up against the cage in a clinch.

Speed gets control of Zaremba's arms and successfully pulls guard. Speed will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Speed pushes Zaremba off and gets back to his feet.
Deamon Speed is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Speed lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Speed is looking to clinch but Zaremba is avoiding it.
Zaremba throws a sloppy head kick and Speed moves out of range easily.
Speed connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Zaremba stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Speed.
Speed moves in looking to clinch but Zaremba pushes him off.
Speed tries to clinch but Zaremba is having none of it.

Speed closes the distance and clinches.
Speed fails to pull guard.

Zaremba breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Speed lands a head shot.
Zaremba avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Speed misses with a few strikes there.
Pawel Zaremba has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Speed throws a leg kick but Zaremba sees it coming and checks it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Deamon Speed showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Speed has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
