PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boston Terrier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Sliva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sliva is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Downtime. Sliva has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Boston Terrier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Sliva!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sliva connects with a high kick.

Sliva looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Sliva won't allow Terrier to get back to his feet.
Terrier is wriggling around but Sliva manages to pass to half guard.
Terrier looks like he's trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Terrier could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Terrier is breathing heavily.
Sliva moves nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Terrier is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sliva has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Sliva staying calm.
Sliva scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Terrier to see if he's OK.
Terrier gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sliva controlling the pace for now.
Let's hope that Sliva has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sliva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Sliva dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sliva scores with a punch to the head.
Terrier throws a lazy head kick
and Sliva finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Sliva dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sliva connects with a high kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sliva fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Sliva chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Sliva looking to score a takedown here. Terrier is defending well but Sliva drives through and ends up in Terrier's guard.
Sliva pushes down on Terrier's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Sliva decides to stand up.
Anderson Sliva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sliva feints and then cracks Terrier's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Terrier down.
Terrier takes a head kick and keeps coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sliva closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Boston Terrier is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sliva scores with a head kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sliva fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Terrier, pushing him back against the cage.

Sliva gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Terrier regains guard.
Sliva looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sliva gets to his feet - Terrier follows without any prompting.

Sliva clinches.

Sliva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sliva pushes Terrier up against the cage in a clinch.
Terrier is trying to break the clinch but Sliva is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sliva pulls guard effortlessly.
Terrier tries to stand but Sliva is controlling from the bottom.
Sliva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Terrier!
Terrier knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sliva on the ground.
Sliva sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Anderson Sliva has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Terrier is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Sliva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Terrier takes one to the chin there.
Terrier misses with a combination

and Sliva counters with a takedown into side control.
Terrier is pushing Sliva's head away, looking to escape. Sliva manages to hold on to the position though.
Sliva is putting a hurting on Terrier here, landing some big shots from side control.
Terrier is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Sliva moves into full mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sliva controlling his opponent.
Terrier is trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sliva controlling from mount.

Sliva stands up from mount. Strange move.

Sliva moves into the clinch.

Sliva has Terrier pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sliva pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Terrier tumbling to the mat - Sliva dives into Terrier's guard.
Sliva engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anderson Sliva is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sliva stands and throws Terrier's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sliva remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sliva prevents Terrier from escaping the position.
Sliva moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Boston Terrier has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sliva decides to stand back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anderson Sliva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sliva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
