PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Takeda Kozo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Naohiro Misaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeda Kozo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Naohiro Misaki!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kozo moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Kozo takes a kick to the side of the head.

Misaki shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Misaki sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kozo defending well though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Misaki thows a huge punch but Kozo dodges it nicely.

Misaki decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Misaki throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kozo.
Misaki closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Kozo shoots for a double leg takedown but Misaki sprawls well. He's pushed Kozo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Misaki leaves Kozo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Misaki throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kozo.
Misaki tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kozo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Misaki somewhat.
No luck for Kozo with that takedown attempt.

and Misaki holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Misaki lands a damaging elbow.
Misaki looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Misaki fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Misaki wants to get back to striking at distance but Kozo won't allow it.

Misaki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Misaki pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Kozo wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Misaki throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Misaki wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Kozo has hold of one of Misaki's legs. Misaki is fighting the takedown attempt but Kozo gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Misaki is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kozo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kozo throws a big right hand that misses.

Misaki pushes Kozo off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Misaki stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Misaki wants it to stay on the feet.

Kozo moves into the clinch.

Kozo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Misaki counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kozo is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Misaki drives through with a takedown into Kozo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kozo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kozo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Misaki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Misaki lands in his opponent's guard.
Misaki would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kozo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Kozo counters with a nice body kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kozo is defended easily by Misaki.
Kozo avoids the head kick by Misaki.
Kozo swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Misaki.
Kozo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Misaki.
Misaki fails with a takedown attempt.
Kozo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Misaki counters by moving into the clinch.
Misaki keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kozo's efforts to push away.
Kozo jumps guard but Misaki stands there with Kozo around his waist. Kozo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Misaki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That kick from Kozo tenderised Misaki's leg. Misaki is trying to keep his angry face on.

Misaki takes the fight into the clinch.
Kozo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Kozo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Misaki just stands there and leans against the cage.

Misaki throws a head kick that Kozo semi-blocks.
Misaki rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kozo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Misaki pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Kozo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Misaki looks for a takedown but Kozo sprawls well.

Misaki gets tackled into the cage by Kozo. Kozo maintains the clinch.
Kozo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Misaki smiles and moves away.
Misaki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kozo tries to avoid it but Misaki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kozo to the ground. Kozo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kozo clinches.

Kozo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kozo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Misaki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kozo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Misaki as he jumps to the side.
Misaki throws a head kick that half lands.
Kozo has a takedown stuffed.

Kozo gets caught napping as Misaki dives in and scores a takedown. Kozo manages to retain guard.

Misaki stands up and waves to Kozo to follow him.

Misaki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Misaki is looking for a kimura but Kozo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Misaki to get the leverage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Naohiro Misaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Kozo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Misaki lands a nice elbow.
Misaki is trying to maintain a safe position but Kozo gets an underhook and turns Misaki into the cage.

Kozo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kozo gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Misaki to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kozo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Misaki is aware though and is defending well.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Misaki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Naohiro Misaki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kozo is trying to work for a sweep but Misaki has mounted him!

Naohiro Misaki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Misaki winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
