Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for de Sapi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
de Sapi throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Severn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Severn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. de Sapi sprawls well initially but Severn persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
de Sapi can't escape the position.

and Severn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in de Sapi's guard now.

It looks like Dan Severn has been cut.

de Sapi tries to clinch

and Severn counters with a shoot takedown. de Sapi fights it but they end up in guard.
de Sapi wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Severn is now in half guard.
Severn is taking a breather. de Sapi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
de Sapi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Severn is working away from the top position though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Severn slows the pace down in half guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Juan de Sapi wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Severn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Severn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Let's hope that Severn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
