PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Diego Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pacho Mendieta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva comes to the cage accompanied by Rage Against the Machine: Renegades of funk. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pacho Mendieta!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendieta tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Silva waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mendieta.

Mendieta forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Mendieta obliges.

Silva goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Mendieta tries a knee to the head but Silva blocks it.
Silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mendieta walks away with a smile on his face. Silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mendieta tries a head kick but it misses.
Mendieta blocks a jab.
Silva throws a sloppy head kick
and Mendieta counters with a nice body kick.
Silva misses with a right hand
and Mendieta counters with a straight right hand.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva throws a body punch but Mendieta moves out of range.
Mendieta chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Mendieta finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Silva takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Silva throws a right hand that misses
letting Mendieta counter with a right hand.
Mendieta throws a leg kick but Silva sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Silva clinches.
Silva tries to pull guard but Mendieta holds him up against the cage and eventually Silva drops back down to his feet.
Silva tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diego Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mendieta won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
Mendieta is fighting to break Silva's control of his arms but Silva is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendieta doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendieta manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mendieta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mendieta won't allow Silva to sweep him here.

Silva isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mendieta stacks Silva on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mendieta!
Silva manages to get back to half guard.

Silva is looking for a sweep. Mendieta is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Mendieta is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Silva tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Mendieta is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Silva seems keen to control Mendieta's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Diego Silva will probably get the nod.

Mendieta throws the kick towards the body but Silva avoids it.

A nice left hand lands by Mendieta.

Pacho Mendieta showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Diego Silva's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendieta gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mendieta wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mendieta is aware though and is defending well.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Diego Silva.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
