PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cameron Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manny Tavares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manny Tavares will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cameron Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Manny Tavares!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tavares connects with a solid leg kick.
Tavares throws a right and a left that Coleman avoids nicely.

Coleman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Coleman lands in his opponent's guard.
Tavares is looking to stand back up but Coleman counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Tavares.
Tavares really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Coleman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Coleman seems to be looking for submissions.
Coleman sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tavares defending well though.
Coleman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tavares wants to get back to his feet.
Tavares won't allow Coleman to pass to mount.

Coleman not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Coleman throwing shots but Tavares is blocking nicely.

Coleman is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coleman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Coleman gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Tavares lands with a hook. Coleman tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Tavares misses with a jab, cross combination.
Tavares does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Coleman shoots in and bounces Tavares off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Coleman wants to control from the top but Tavares keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Coleman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Coleman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Coleman is pushing down on Tavares's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tavares is fighting to maintain full guard but Coleman has managed to sneak the leg through.
Coleman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Tavares should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Coleman is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Coleman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tavares sees it coming and defends easily.

Coleman seems to be looking for submissions.
Coleman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Coleman decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Coleman shoots in but no luck this time.
Coleman shoots in looking for a takedown. Tavares tries to sprawl out of it but Coleman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tavares manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tavares stalks Coleman and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Coleman's face. Coleman staggers backwards, shaken.
Coleman moves away from the strike by Tavares.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tavares but Tavares pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cameron Coleman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tavares tried to score with a low kick but Coleman checks it.
Coleman takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Cameron Coleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tavares misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tavares misses with a double jab.
Coleman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
An inside leg kick lands from Tavares.
Tavares lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Tavares misses with a few strikes there.
Tavares throws a looping overhand right but Coleman ducks down to avoid it.

Coleman has managed to clinch.

Tavares wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Coleman has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tavares avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Coleman decides to pull guard.

Coleman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tavares gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Coleman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tavares defends well.

Coleman is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Coleman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tavares doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tavares manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Tavares lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Tavares scores with a leg kick.
Coleman dives in and grabs Tavares's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tavares pushes down on Coleman's head and hops out.
Tavares lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Tavares swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Coleman stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tavares.
Coleman avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tavares fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Coleman has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Coleman doesn't manage to clinch there - Tavares circles away.
Coleman is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Some bone on bone action there as Coleman checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Tavares throws a quick inside leg kick.
Coleman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tavares sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Coleman somewhat.
Coleman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Coleman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tavares but Tavares pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Coleman slips a jab and a cross from Tavares.
Tavares throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Coleman on the side of the head.
Coleman chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tavares can pounce on him.
Tavares feints a jab promting Coleman to slip. Tavares then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Coleman slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Coleman walks into a left hand.
Tavares fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Coleman has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

A left and a right from Tavares both land. Nice combination.
Tavares throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Coleman.
Sloppy strikes from Tavares. Those never looked like landing.
Tavares fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Coleman.

Coleman keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tavares.

Coleman shoots in and gets a takedown into Tavares's guard.
Coleman throws a big right hand that misses.
Coleman passes Tavares's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Coleman seems to be working for a kimura but Tavares defends the submission attempt.

Coleman seems to be looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Coleman controlling the pace.
Tavares is not content to let Coleman control the position.
Tavares regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Coleman.
Coleman forces his way into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Coleman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tavares defends it well.
Cameron Coleman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tavares is defending against the submission attempts here by Coleman.
Coleman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

And that's the end of the fight!
Manny Tavares comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Coleman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
