Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zarate slips under a jab.
Bird moves forwards but Zarate connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Bird closes the distance but Zarate moves to the side
letting Zarate counter with a right hand.
Bird tries to clinch but Zarate moves out of range.
Bird tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zarate paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Zarate is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

and Zarate counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Zarate finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Zarate dives in and grabs Bird's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bird pushes down on Zarate's head and hops out.

and Zarate cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Zarate is looking to break free of the clinch but Bird has double underhooks.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Zarate throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Bird has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
