PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Gipsy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marshall is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. Jon Marshall has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mickey Gipsy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall tries to bum rush Gipsy with a series of wild strikes but Gipsy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Marshall lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gipsy backs up against the cage.

Gipsy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Marshall manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gipsy trying to control the position from guard on top but Marshall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marshall throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Marshall is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gipsy is aware though and is defending well.

Marshall working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gipsy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gipsy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gipsy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gipsy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

We're going to have a standup here because Mickey Gipsy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Marshall instigates a clinch.

Marshall turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Gipsy can't do much from the bottom here.
Marshall wants to stand but Gipsy has his arm trapped.
Gipsy is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gipsy is not content to let Marshall control the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Marshall staying busy and making it hard for Gipsy to control.
Marshall rolls, trying to escape but Gipsy keeps control of the position.
Gipsy tries to get the hooks in deep but Marshall pushed the leg off.
Marshall turns into Gipsy and is now in his guard.

Marshall stands and steps away. Gipsy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Marshall dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Marshall gets a clinch.
Marshall throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Gipsy wants to get back to striking at distance but Marshall won't allow it.
A frustrated look appears on Marshall's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Marshall prevents Gipsy from breaking the clinch.
Marshall lands a body punch in the clinch.
Gipsy working hard to break the clinch.
Marshall gets underhooks to prevent Gipsy's takedown attempt.
Gipsy fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Marshall breaks the clinch.
Marshall stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Marshall closes the distance and clinches.
Marshall will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Gipsy up against the cage.
The crowd are getting on Marshall's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Gipsy tries to pull guard but Marshall holds him up against the cage and eventually Gipsy drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mickey Gipsy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Marshall drags the fight down to the ground.
Gipsy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marshall swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Marshall looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Marshall wants to stand but Gipsy is controlling the position.
Marshall keeping moving, preventing Gipsy from controlling successfully.
Gipsy throws a big right hand that misses.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gipsy loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gipsy tries to free his leg and advance position but Marshall is retaining full guard.
Marshall is pulling down on Gipsy's head to control his posture.

Gipsy tries to break free but Marshall pushes him back against the cage.

Marshall has hold of one of Gipsy's legs. Gipsy is fighting the takedown attempt but Marshall gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Marshall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gipsy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Marshall wants to stand but Gipsy is controlling his posture from full guard.

Gipsy is looking to stand up but Marshall isn't so interested in that idea.
Marshall scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Marshall makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gipsy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marshall controls the pace.
Marshall tries to stand but Gipsy is controlling from the bottom.

Mickey Gipsy has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Marshall darts in and clinches Gipsy up against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gipsy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Marshall gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gipsy trying to hold on to Marshall's head to control him but Marshall postures up.
Marshall tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Gipsy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Gipsy misses with a few strikes there.
Marshall's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Marshall duly obliges.

Gipsy tries to pull guard but Marshall won't allow it.
Gipsy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Marshall pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Gipsy counters with a body kick that stops Marshall in his tracks momentarily.

Marshall shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gipsy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gipsy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Marshall looking to sit in guard and control but Gipsy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Marshall holds on and takes a little breather.
Gipsy is pushing down on Marshall's leg trying to pass to half guard. Marshall is fighting to maintain full guard but Gipsy has managed to sneak the leg through.

Marshall is looking to get back to is feet but Gipsy passes into side control.
Marshall on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The ground and pound from Gipsy seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Marshall tries to improve position but can't.
Marshall striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Gipsy is looking to take a break and control but Marshall is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mickey Gipsy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Marshall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gipsy postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Well Marshall has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
