Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bj Becks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ichiro Miyata! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Becks tries a head kick but it misses.
An inside leg kick lands from Becks. Miyata tries to close the distance and clinch but Becks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Miyata throws a lazy body kick and Becks counters with a single leg into guard. Miyata didn't expect that. Becks is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Becks slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Becks wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Miyata, who protects the arm well. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Becks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Miyata is trying to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miyata prevents Becks from improving position. Becks is trying to ground and pound but Miyata uses the momentary lack of control by Becks to regain half guard. Miyata really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Becks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Becks is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Miyata doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Becks. Becks is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miyata blocking the ground and pound attempt from Becks. Miyata wants to get back to full guard. Becks keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Becks is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Miyata is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
