PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dean Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ei Keksi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Keksi is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Foo Fighters - Low. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ei Keksi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keksi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Reed circles away.

Reed scores with a takedown into Keksi's guard.

Keksi working for a triangle but Reed defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reed controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reed tries to free his leg and advance position but Keksi is retaining full guard.
Reed is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Reed controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Keksi is trying to keep Reed in close.
Reed slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Keksi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

You can see the frustration on Keksi's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Keksi trying to control the hands but Reed won't let him.
Reed lands a shot to the head.
Reed is riding his opponent, not letting Keksi buck him off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Keksi rolls, trying to escape but Reed keeps control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Reed's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Keksi misses with a takedown

and Reed counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Reed wants to take Keksi's back but he can't do it this time.

Keksi tries to reverse the position but Reed maintains control.

Reed jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Keksi manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Keksi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Reed wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dean Reed overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Keksi seems a little lost for a moment, as Reed dominates the positioning.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Keksi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Reed taking a breather here.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dean Reed just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Reed looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reed content to control rather than advance.
Reed looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Keksi with a poor takedown

and Reed counters with a single leg into guard. Keksi didn't expect that.
Keksi being controlled here, momentarily.
Keksi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Reed tries to get to full guard but Keksi has control of the leg.
Keksi not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Keksi is tying to control. Reed wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Reed is doing well to control the position and prevent Keksi from advancing to side control.

Keksi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Reed doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Keksi.
Keksi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Keksi misses with a head shot. Reed uses the momentum to regain guard.

Reed is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Reed looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Keksi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Reed pulls Keksi in close to prevent any damage.

Reed not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Reed loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Reed stopping the sweep attempt from Keksi.

Reed stands and throws Keksi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Reed has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Keksi!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reed controlling the pace for now.
Keksi working to try and regain half guard.
Reed controlling the position easily from mount.
Ei Keksi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Keksi has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dean Reed showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Reed has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
